Change, evolve or you don’t exist...

Adapting to change in a competitive environment world – find out how you can avoid becoming complacent in the workplace.
By Mark Tewksbury

Performing well just doesn’t happen. It is a process that requires skills to pull things together when it counts, understanding where you have been, where you are, where you want to go, and how you can get there. The impossible can become possible if we don’t take things for granted, if we are well prepared, all of which starts with one question, “Why do I care?” Then we must execute every day and adapt! Because if you don’t do it for yourself, then who will?

Those were the inspiring thoughts presented by Mark Tewksbury, Olympic Gold medalist, last February 21st at the Dorval Hilton. Using his own personal experiences as a means to motivate others to achieve excellence, Tewskury entertained a packed house sharing his 8 steps that can allow us all to perform and keep performing.

  1. Reflect. Stop. Take stock. Ask yourself these key questions: What am I doing? Why am I doing it? How can I do it better? And why do I care?

  2. Expand your perspective. Get out of your comfort zone. Take responsibility and believe in the power of thought.

  3. Act effectively. Establish your clarity of purpose. Maximize your strengths, identify what we don’t do well, and partner with those who can fill that gap.

  4. Go the distance. There is no escaping hard work in order to be successful.

  5. Clarify vision and stay on track. It’s important to take the time, look inside and reconnect with your plan.

  6. Use every day wisely. Live with integrity, by doing what you say you’re going to do. Look at yourself every day and ask, Have I done everything today to be my best?

  7. Be ready mentally. We can sabotage our own success without mental training. Daily affirmations are one example to being mentally ready to be the best you can be.

  8. Details, details, details. If you’re even with the competition, it’s the small details that will make the difference.
